Punta Mita is located in the Nayarit Riviera, one of the most beautiful coastlines in Mexico’s Pacific, 45minutes away from “Puerto Vallarta’s International Airport”.

Framed in a stunningly beautiful landscape of white sandy beaches, Punta Mita is attracting the attention of jet setters, celebrities, and those seeking the best Mexico has to offer.

Punta Mita and environs, offer the opportunity to explore around 25 miles of absolutely stunning beaches, many of which are secluded and can only be accessed by boat (cruises and tours are available) or driving north or south of town (public transport is limited in the area, renting a car is recommended).


These secret and not-so-secret beaches are well worth visiting, you will find extraordinary private little spots between rock formations teeming with marine life and abundance of seashells and other sea treasures.

The idyllic “Sayulita” beach is perfect for surfing or sunning. “Lo de Marcos”, “San Pancho”, “Playa Chacala”, “Guayabitos” and “Puerto Vallarta” (on the neighboring state of Jalisco), are all great daytrips from Punta de Mita and each town offers its own versions of fun and interesting adventures to add to your vacation.

“El Anclote” is the local village with some excellent palapa restaurants to eat on the beach from where you can see Las Marietas island and nature reserve, home to the beautiful blue-footed bobby and arrange sightseeing trips by boat, rent a kayak, snorkeling gear, or hire a “panga” (fisherman’s boat) with a guide.

Whale Watching

Starting November through to March, the hump back whales arrive to this area to reproduce and give birth to their calves. Take an organized tour to watch these magnificent creatures.

Sport Fishing

Sports’ fishing is an important and hugely popular pastime in this area, if you are looking for an unforgettable fishing experience, Punta Mita is guaranteed to deliver. The coastlines of Banderas Bay and the Pacific Ocean are the perfect environments for Blue, Striped, and Black Marlin, Dorado and many others.

Diving, Surfing & Other Water Sports

Punta Mita is one of Mexico’s top diving destinations; this region is a water-lover’s paradise whether you like sailing, water-skiing, parasailing, jet skis, windsurfing or kayaking, Punta Mita has it all!.

Count on generally fun waves for surfing and at the minimum great long boarding. Many of the breaks are best accessed by boat. The best surf in winter season (November-March) is found on the sheltered reefs such as Burros, Playa La Lancha, and El Faro.

Golf.

Punta Mita features the only golf course in the World featuring a hole located on a freestanding natural island. Nayarit’s appeal to leading designers and golfers ítems from its fine year-round weather, ocean views, a backdrop of tropical forests and rugged mountains, and a variety of landscapes, the result is a stunning selection of great golf courses to choose from in the region.

 

Away From The Water

Excellent spas are available in and around Punta Mita. There is a wealth of land-based experiences to encounter for example: day-trip hikes, horseback riding, colonial tours, expeditions to visit the Sierra Madre Mountains, hot air ballooning and zip line tours.

THE HUICHOLES, ART AND MAGIC.

The state of Nayarit is home to one of the most colorful and mystical indigenous communities in Mexico: The “Huicholes.”

In the past thirty years, many “Huicholes” have migrated to cities drawing attention to their rich culture and their art.

The Huichol paintings are amongst the most impressive, attractive and artistically complex of all Mexican Fol. Art. Its images are filled with spiritual meaning based on very early mythological traditions.

The huicholes are known for its art using beads for decorating bowls used in sacred ceremonies, masks and also in sculpted jaguar heads which are exceedingly striking due to its vibrant colour combinations and its random figure design, each is related to a part of Huichol tradition and belief.

The beadwork depicts prominent patterns and symbols not always identifiable which float like in a surrealistic dream, magical!

GETTING THERE

Punta de Mita is a 45-60 minutes drive from Puerto Vallarta’s International Airport, extremely well served by a range of airlines. Ground transportation and shuttles are available to Punta Mita from the airport. You can also rent a car, particularly if you are planning to explore the area and its wonderful beaches.
