OAXACA CITY, Source of inspiration.

Located only 5 hours by car from Mexico City, Oaxaca offers a festive environment to the traveler, appeasable and filled with color, well worth the trip, at least for a long weekend.

Walking along the streets of the historical center the unequivocal tracks of the sources of inspiration for artists and craftsmen who have slowly transform this city into a mosaic where the art and the crafts are difficult to separate are revealed.

At the markets, architecture and public space of the historical center, the capricious combinations of color, smell and flavor subdue the senses permanently. The well-preserved architecture in the surroundings of the “Zocalo” (Main square), the theatre Macedonio Alcalá and the Ex-convent of Santo Domingo are a fabulous filled with life scenario.

Only a few steps from the main square, the market “20 de Noviembre” offers the possibility of getting lost between smells, flavors and colors interlaced in unsuspected ways. The famous “Mole”, “cesinas”, “tlayudas”, impossible flavored ice-cream, chocolates, flowers and ants (yes you are reading correctly) seasoned with chili push the visitor - without notice - to become part of the dough of local sensations.

The Mezcal (liquor made from agave) and the contemporary food of the capital city deserve a separated chapter. the varieties of Mezcal are endless and available at every bar and restaurant. Some brands are increasingly gaining international reputation.  It is impossible to miss the combination of Mezcal with a couple orange slices diped in worm salt served in a small glass that was once a candle.

Make sure to drink your mezcal after eating in one of the excellent restaurants of food “Oaxaqueña style” an exquisite mix of local flavors and signature cuisine of some of the best chefs in the country.

The city has something for everybody, and a wide variety of hotels for every budget and taste. If you have enough time you can also visit the surroundings to see the “Tule”: the oldest tree alive or visit the ruins of Mitla and Monte Albán, faithful witnesses of the wealth and history of this fascinating city.
